The calendar on my smartphone chimed early this morning, REMINDER: Spouse’s Birthday is Today. The gift had been purchased, the outfit chosen, all I needed was to find a fun place to celebrate a birthday in San Diego.
The age-old question, where to go? I could try a restaurant, but why? Trying to get Downtown and find parking is impossible. Then, I can never find a reservation on such late notice. Little Italy? La Jolla? Del Mar? Maybe trek up to north county, but then, again, what? Just a dinner, maybe a glass of wine and that’s it.
My partner deserves so much more than that. They deserve a night filled with excitement, thrilling adult fun, an amazing dinner, some sinful desserts, and end with birthday fireworks. They deserve a fairytale birthday.
I suddenly remembered receiving a call from my fantastic Viejas Casino Host telling me about the Birthday Bash my spouse and I were invited to. I also recalled getting an email asking me to RSVP and had just put it off.
I immediately called my Host and asked if we could still go, which of course, she said YES! We’d have a table waiting for us with a plated dinner, some yummy goodies, a champagne toast, and a special fireworks show.
I truly had to pinch myself, everything I ever wanted to get my spouse waiting for me at Viejas. I thought our favorite San Diego casino was there just to have fun, gamble some, and then go home. Never did I even think about taking advantage of all the rewards they give me just for playing my favorite casino games and being a myViejas Member.
Look, like you, I’m busy. I get it. I get a hundred emails a day and so many SPAM calls that I’m thinking of changing my number. So anytime Viejas called, I just put it aside. Ignored their emails or text messages. But this time, I’m so glad I didn’t.
As soon as I told my partner we were going somewhere fun and special for their birthday, I could tell the excitement had set in. It isn’t every day we get to dress up to the nines and just enjoy our time together and what better way to celebrate a birthday than going to Viejas. They have everything we needed!
As soon as we arrived, I was awestruck by how nice everyone was. I almost felt like our Casino Host had told everyone that it was a special night. From Valet to Security to Table Game Dealers, they all were just happy. It’s something you don’t see with the other guys.
We found our Host, and she greeted us with a big hug and told us our special table was ready for us. We went upstairs to the Oak Ballroom and were stunned by what we saw. The Birthday Bash isn’t just a small gathering, nope, it’s a huge party! A great live band was playing, every table was decorated beautifully, and the dinner was delicious. I’m talking steak and lobster surf and turf delicious!
We found our Host, and she greeted us with a big hug and told us our special table was ready for us. We went upstairs to the Oak Ballroom and were stunned by what we saw. We got our champagne and purchased some more cocktails to keep the night going. The band got us up on our feet, and we danced a conga line. My smartwatch even asked me if I was working out during our dancing session. Our Casino Host also told us we were automatically entered into a Free Play Cash Drawing where we could win a share of $7,500!
Strangers became friends, while friends became better friends. All at Viejas!
But the greatest birthday prize was seeing my spouses smile. I’m not the easiest person to live with, I know this, but tonight it didn’t matter. It was all about them, all about their birthday. It was the best birthday party in San Diego. Yet, the birthday bash fairytale was not complete. 9:15 pm came around and an announcement was made by the band.
We proceeded to the Oak Ballroom Balcony overlooking the beautiful Alpine Valley. We hear the soothing sounds of Frank Sinatra and then BOOM! A sparkler in the air, and then another, and then another. Our very own Birthday fireworks show! What other San Diego Casino does that? I now know the answer to that question.
On our way home, a short 25-minute drive, I turned to my spouse and asked, so, how was your birthday?
The answer they gave me was…
Well, I think I’ll just leave that to your imagination.
